Education

“Our after-school program bridges the humanities and natural sciences in an interdisciplinary curriculum with experiential learning at its core. Our school is a living, breathing entity where students have meaningful experiences and develop a balanced understanding of the world.”

core principles

  • MAKE SCHOOL A SAFE-HAVEN: We provide an inspiring and supportive space to learn. Our “classroom” spaces throughout the hacienda are surrounded by nature and other living beings. Fresh air, good lighting and engaging activities create a much needed environment for human development to flourish.
  • ENGRAVE KNOWLEDGE AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL: We involve the whole body through the senses. It is often thought that our mind is defining and dictating our experience of life, shaping who we are as individuals and societies. But it is mostly our body who is doing that — the world we see, hear, feel, smell, and taste. Our curriculum is rooted in experiential learning that stimulates all senses though the arts, crafts and sciences.
  • RE-WRITE HISTORY: We tell the whole story, the silent story. We’re at a crucial time in history experiencing a major paradigm shift from our Eurocentric, male-dominated past. To help break this cycle we must use a more comprehensive teaching approach, away from the usual black and white scenario. To connect the dots between past, present and future we teach life skills that foster purpose and belonging. A sense of place is forged by an emphasis on ecological stewardship.

“What they really need to succeed is to get away—to have a place where they would be welcome and able to concentrate on learning.”
